Grandad Janusz and Grandma Zosia used to drive down for day trips to Piotrawin, a little village looking over the Wisła. On the way back, they’d pick walnuts that had fallen along the road. Every month, we’d receive a package in the post from Grandma with a little bag of those shelled walnuts and the latest Polish papers. The following is a transcript of a conversation I had with grandma whilst shelling some of those walnuts at her kitchen table. Grandma Zosia passed away in November 2018.
